$5 million project for Waipareira Trust
Chief Executive John Tamihere put his confidence in Aotearoa Construction for its first major project. A complete overhaul of the John Henry Centre in Henderson is well under way, and the result is sure to be an impressive feature in West Auckland.
The Trust bought the John Henry Centre in Henderson at the start of 2010 as part of its plans to deliver a range of health services under one roof. The concept ties in with the Whanau Ora initiative – a family-orientated approach to government services that aims to reduce bureaucracy and speed up implementation.
John Tamihere sees enormous scope to make a difference. "Whanau Ora will bring that assistance together, recognise the importance of the family, and encourage those families to take control of their future."
This is exactly the kind of development that Aotearoa Construction was set up to handle – i.e. a Maori-led initiative that provides employment opportunities for Maori and helps build skills within the community.
With stage 1 complete, Aotearoa Construction is starting work on the next phase of the development. This will involve a $5.2 million contract for building new facilities for the Trust’s Whanau Ora initiatives.
