Whare Waka will make a statement on the banks of the Waikato
Aotearoa Construction commissioned award-winning architects Stevens Lawson to design a stunning structure that will house famous waka, as well as providing a centre for master carvers and a meeting place for visitors and tourists.
The Whare Waka will provide a new destination and focal point in Ngaruawahia, on the banks of the Waikato. It will address the problem of visitors bypassing this small but historic town. It also will give people the opportunity to engage with the culture and history of the Waikato. This has the potential to become a first-class conference centre and exhibition facilities in due course.
We’re extremely pleased to be involved in an initiative that promises so much for Tainui. With the vision and support of Maharaia Paki we believe the Whare Waka can deliver ongoing benefits to the whole community.
As the chosen project partner, Aotearoa Construction will ensure the benefits of construction are directed to the local community – providing employment, trade apprenticeships and subcontracting opportunities for whanau.
